Unread disclaimers & policies

We always talk about improving user experience in web & software applications. Even to create a small forms we prefer to give a unique and "easy of use" approach.

Here is one scenario, where as a user I faced a problem.

When I was signing up for one of the famouse ecommerce site to purchase some product. Since am purchasing an expensive product from that ecommerce site, I wanted to go through the disclaimer & other polcies very carefully. I felt so lazy to read a disclaimer of around 450 lines. Since I was in hurry and as well a slow reader, I didn't purchase the product and came next day online.

Next day again some thing came inbetween & again I had to postpone.

Then I seriously thought of solving this issue of how to make every one to carefully go throught content available in websites.

Its really challenging to solve the problem 100% for all users. More over every body is not interested or keen on reading these policy information.

But I thought of giving solutions for those users, who were interested to know about the disclaimer or any other policy information.

I tried different way of solving it & found the following ways intuitive & useful.

  • Provide download mp3 or Download audio file for your ipod
  • policy in pdf file.
  • Introduce play button for topic by topic ( user can choose topic by interest, if disclaimer or privacy policy has 15 paragraph, they can directly go there and listen to it while doing other works.
  • Facilitate IVR - where they can listen while travelling or call any time for any clarification on polcy. Make it as toll free.
  • provide a policy manual in multilingual
Pls Suggest Usability !!!
