Is Google Product Search Reliable?

Most of the search in web these days are mostly reliable, But some not. Search engine throws thousands of results, Even in worst case our search result will match with in 10 pages.
Google search engine is always reliable in search results. Two days before Google relaunched froogle as Google Product Search. There are lot of expectations in new Google Product Search.
Some of the search results in Google Product Search are not quite positive. When we say product search, It should be as good as Amazon product search. Tried few basic keywords with Yahoo, Live, Ask, Google & Amazon. Look at the comparison & the result was interesting.

First keyword: Canon

What did we try? We tried to see how good the Google product search work with the basic key words. This is a product search. So we wanted to know what are all categories and products shows as search result when we try for a Brand like Canon. Here is the result:

When we searched for Canon in Google Product Search. Google Product Search results showed only Canon Cameras. It didn't show other products of Canon. So get confirmation on range of products, we checked Canon website. They have various product range falling like scanners, copiers & fax, calculators, supplies and accessories & Network & video solutions. Google Product Search didnt show up these products at all. Even features like Also try & Relates searches were also missing. And results showed only Canon Cameras. yeah its accept that Canon cameras are much popular than other products. Still search result was not satisfactory. Is Google product search still crawling and not indexed?

Yahoo! Results on Canon
Even Yahoo search result doesn't show all products under canon. But Yahoo shows "Also try" option where they show the related keywords with "more..." options. Also try has - Cameras & Printers.

Live Search Results on Canon

Live also doesn't show the complete range of products of Canon. Right Bar in Live shows "Related Search". In "Related Search" has Cameras, Printers, Toners, Canon USA, Powershot, Copiers, Canada & Scanner. Live is comparitively better than Yahoo & Googles product Search.

Ask Search Results on Canon

Ask has options to Narrow your search, Expand your Search & Related names. Expand your Search shows Canon and other competitive brands. (Competitive brands in same product line like camera & printers.) When we click Canon from "Expand your Search" Expand your search is much effective in Ask. Ask shows most of the products of Canon.

Google's Search Results on Canon

Google Search didn't showup any brands of Canon either. Google search has "Search Related" in left bar below navigation. This list has Canon drivers, Canon support, Canon bible, Canon india. Its surprising that "Realted Search" didn't show up Canon USA & Canon Canada which Live.com has.

First keyword: Sony

Next Attempt with Different Keyword, so we tried with Sony. Sony has much more products range than Canon. Check the Sony Results from Google Product Search, Yahoo, Live,Ask &Google general search .

Even for Sony, all search engines behaved same way. There were some inconsistencies in Google Search result. In Canon search, Google showed "Related Search" in left bar. But in Sony's Search, Google didn't shown up the "Related Search" in search result page.

Overall Live & Ask search results has products of brands (sony and Canon) than other search engines.

Then we tried with Amazon, Not comparing with Search Giants though. We got the satisfied result ;). These are predefined categories. Like Yahoo result, Amazon also showed Accessories, Audio & Video, Cell Phones, Computers, Cameras & Camcorders & more...


In the Left, Amazon has categorized list of Sony brand

In the product search, Search result should have brand category too. When a user search on a particular brand, the search result should show all the products in a particular brand. Real scenario is there is no Sony outlet, where there is only Sony digital cameras are sold.

Does Search Engines need the Sixth Sense?
