Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia. Wikipedia is available in CD now. This CD has 2000 articles.I read several blogs and articles on Wikipedia's revenue model and ideas from various communities and blog for Jimmy Wales. We all know Jimmy Wales was brain behind the invention of Wiki. Even Wikipedia had challenges in maintaining the Servers. Few blogs even suggested Jimmy of having Google Ads in Wikipedia. Atlast they have come up with Wikipedia CD. "Articles were chosen based on criteria for quality and importance set by the Wikipedia community. Topics covered include, among others, geography, arts, literature, science, history, and natural sciences. Users can browse articles using a built-in search engine or by surfing navigational pages." - Wikimedia.
Wikipedia 0.5 is developed by open source KiwiX. Wikimedia is looking for more volunteers to work on Open source software Kiwix. Wikipedia CD is compatible with Windows (back to 98), Macintosh (Intel) OS X and Linux x86.
Wikipedia 0.5 is sold at the price of $13.99. Its little bit expensive for the information provided on version 0.5. Wikimedia should think about the price factor. Commerical competitor Microsoft Encarta Premium 2007 costs $26.99 after mail in rebate. At present Microsofts encarta is best encylopedia popular among students. Microsoft doesn't have online encyclopedia. Indian & chinese market will have more demand on educational CD's, if its lesser price. And this rate is expensive for normal school / college students in India especially.

Hi, you've raised the concern that the CD is expensive. Probably you are not aware that the CD is also available for free download. The sale is for supporting the project. Everybody is welcome to download the CD for free. Torrents are also available.
Making a donation or purchasing the CD is not the only way of helping Wikipedia. You can help Wikipedia by evangelizing, by raising awareness about Wikipedia (like you're doing now :)), by recommending it to people you know, and in many other ways.
